Debbie Sardone, Founder of Cleaning For A Reason

Buckets & Bows Maid Service was proudly featured this past week in a segment on ‘News 8 Daybreak‘ on WFAA/Channel 8 in Dallas. Segment anchor Sean Giggy, voicing over the video, introduced the woman from North Texas who has given away hundreds of local house cleanings, while the camera zoomed in on our office in Lewisville. The woman from North Texas at the center of this ‘Giggly Bytes’ (as the regular segment on WFAA is called) was BBMS owner and president and Flower Mound resident, Debbie Sardone. Sean’s report told the story of a phone call Debbie answered many years ago and how it became the inspiration for giving away free house cleanings to women battling cancer. In our office, we’ve all heard the story before, but it never loses its impact. Debbie took a phone call from a woman who wanted a quote for cleaning her home but, after hearing the price, the caller acknowledged that she couldn’t afford it right then; she wasn’t working because she was undergoing treatment for cancer. The call ended and Debbie realized how she had missed an opportunity to help this woman and committed to make up for her mistake. For several years, Debbie’s Buckets & Bows Maid Service cleaned for women battling cancer in Flower Mound, Highland Village and the surrounding areas of Denton County we service and, to date, we have provided free house cleanings for more than 300 local women and their families. Twelve years ago, sharing her story at a conference, Debbie saw the interest from other maid services in what she and BBMS were doing in the local community and this time she seized the opportunity presented! Debbie established the non-profit, Cleaning For A Reason, and 1200 maid services throughout the US and Canada have since joined Buckets & Bows in our work, resulting in 28,000 free house cleanings for women undergoing cancer treatment —  a donation valued at $8 million in free house cleanings. Buckets & Bows Maid Service is proud to have won Cleaning For A Reason’s Top Cleaning Partner for most free cleanings in 2016. The effort may have started with us but we now have lots of competition from other maid services who love giving back through Cleaning For A Reason. Debbie never learned the identity of the woman who called asking for a price so she couldn’t make it right for her, but she has shown the power of never missing an opportunity to give and, of course as the saying goes, to have it returned to you tenfold.
