A little history of Bartonville, TX.
Bartonville got its start at the beginning of Texas’s statehood after the Texas Revolution. Originally, the land was inhabited by the Native American groups of the Comanches, Kiowas, Wichitas, and their subgroup of Kichais. New settlers were enticed by the promise of lush land, and the area offered many resources. The area had fresh water, forests through the area that provided timer, and fertile soil. The coming of the railroads expanded the economy, allowing goods that were not common to the area to be brought in. Bartonville was first known as “Barton’s Mills” because it had the highest amount of wheat leaving the state. While surrounding cities began to grow, Bartonville maintained its rural status and steadily grew through the years. Its landmark Bartonville store closed after 130 years in 2013, but later reopened as a deli with a bar and grill.
