A little history of Argyle, TX.
Formerly known as “Waintown” and “Pilot Knob”, Argyle is located on US HWY 377 and Missouri Pacific Railroad in Denton County. In the 1850’s, 43 families settled on unclaimed land in the area, 14 of those families established a community dubbed the Peters Colony. Argyle was founded November 7, 1881 and named after the railroad surveyor. Denton County was divided into 73 school districts in 1884 and Argyle received its own district. The city eventually built a two story brick school and by 1891, Argyle had the 5th largest school district in the county. Argyle incorporated in 1962, in the 1970’s more businesses began to grow in the city, and later was a spot for people who wanted to remain close to the city but wanted the country feel in a town. Today Argyle sits with a small population of 4,707 residents, maintaining its small town comfort with all the city amenities close by the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex.
